After Florence’s first Sweepy Jet street cleaner hits the streets on March 21, many motorists in Novoli and southern Rifredi will no longer have to move their cars for weekly street cleaning. Campo di Marte will also see the street cleaner in action, but only during football games and other events at the Franchi Stadium; weekly cleaning will begin by the close of 2010. In May, the street cleaner will begin runs in northern Rifredi, Soffiano and Firenze Nova. By July, Sweepy Jet will be operating in the Fortezza and Statuto areas. According to city officials, by the end of 2010, Sweepy Jet will be cleaning a third of Florence’s streets, and the service will be extended to the Gavinana and Oltrarno areas in 2011.
