The mooring poles in Venice’s lagoon
will soon be replaced with poles made from recycled containers, manufactured in
Lucca.

The material from thousands of recycled TetraPak milk
cartons will be reused to make the colourful striped mooring poles, which are
much more durable than the traditional wooden ones that must be replaced
frequently. Using the recycled material will also save hundreds of trees every
year.

The plant in Lucca, which opened just over a year ago,
is part of a Europe-wide recycling company called the Lucart Group, which also
recycles aluminum and plastic products.
