Polimoda, International Institute of Fashion, Design and Marketing, has opened a sleek, contemporary campus in Scandicci.

The new centre, situated in via Galileo Galilee near tram stops Resistenza and De André, will offer fashion design, fashion technology and footwear and accessory design in 13 professionally equipped labs for design, sewing, knitwear, patterns, footwear and leatherwear.

400 square metres will be used for the Polimoda Startup business incubator, a new project aimed at helping emerging new designers.

The new build was funded by Scandicci town council, the European Union and the Tuscan Region as part of the project Piuss Città dei Saperi, costing almost three million euro.

The official opening, held on February 6, 2015, was attended by the institute’s president Ferruccio Ferragamo, director Linda Loppa, mayor of Scandicci Sandro Fallani, mayor of Florence Dario Nardella and president of the Tuscan Region Enrico Rossi.

The inauguration of the new Polimoda campus comes fast on the heels of a recent article on Style.com that touted Florence as “the world’s fifth fashion capital.”
