Design, crafts and more original gifts are popping up in Florence and the city’s environs this holiday season.
Source is an annual exhibition and workshop series that focuses on self-made design. Now, they’ve opened a holiday-time temporary shop in the Oltrarno (via Maggio 53/r, Florence, open until January 10, 2016). Unique pieces of often minimalist, technological design represent the Source aesthetic.
Artisans are also the focus of the Simply Creative popup shop held at Mimi Furaha (borgo degli Albizi 35r, December 1–31, 2015). Four female artists and close friends who work around Tuscany serve up unusual handmade gifts. You’ll find funky accessories and small items for the home in ceramics, leather, wood and more.
From December 11 to 13, 2015, Creative People in Florence will be hosting a Holiday Pop Up Shop in collaboration with MK La Serra Textile Atelier (via Salvestrina, 1). It will feature crafty holiday gift items from the group’s members, a hot chocolate bar and a photo booth.
With the winter chill upon us, it’s worth the trip to Prato for the Bisentino Temporary Store (via Garibaldi 102, Prato, until January 31, 2016). The historic wool producer Lanificio Bisentino, whose factory is located near the Medici villa of Poggio a Caiano, is selling its modern scarf collection in hip little store in downtown Prato. You’ll find warm accessories of every colour, weight and size for men and women in a price range from 18 to 50 euros—a steal.
