Born in Florence on January 23, 1923, Silvano “Nano” Campeggi designed artwork for some of the most famous film posters of all time. Now generally regarded as the most important graphic artist and poster designer in the history of American cinema, Florence pays tribute to Campeggi with an exhibition in the Palazzo Vecchio’s Sala d’Armi.
The show displays the artist’s works including his posters for Paramount, Metro Goldwyn Mayer and countless other production companies, as well as his other wide-ranging artistic portfolio.
Over 40 paintings depict the long, eclectic career of Silvano Campeggi, from Hollywoodian icons like Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Marlon Brando and Audrey Hepburn to top films such as Gone With The Wind, Casablanca, Singin’ in the Rain and West Side Story. The exhibition also focuses on important historic figures and battles, as well as art far apart from the world of cinema, such as the rocks of Elba and devils.
