The bridge that links Le Cure and Campo di Marte with the rest of Florence is set to be demolished and rebuilt by September 2026.
Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) has announced the start of works to replace the Ponte al Pino bridge with a new steel-concrete structure measuring 32 metres in length and 16 metres in width (the current bridge is 27 metres long and 14.5 metres wide). The new overpass is designed to be lighter, stronger, and environmentally friendly through the use of a 100% recyclable material, Corten steel. Existing traffic lanes and directions will be maintained while changes will be made to current load restrictions and a dedicated pedestrian and cycle path is planned.

Project timeline
- January 2026: Installation of a temporary pedestrian walkway (bicycles can be pushed by hand).
- February–March 2026: Reinforcement of abutments with partial traffic closures.
- June–September 2026: Main construction phase, with a period of full closure for the removal of the old deck and installation of the new one using a 2,000-ton crane on site (scheduled for July–August).
- September–November 2026: Removal of the temporary walkway.
Railway disruptions will be limited to a few days, and traffic management plans will be communicated in advance. The most disruptive phase has been deliberately planned for summer, when city traffic is lighter.
Preliminary works include tree removal in piazza Giorgio Vasari, excluding the historic pine and other protected trees. Once completed, the area will be redeveloped and replanted, with 100 new trees to be planted in various parts of Florence.
