Residents and visitors across Tuscany are being advised to prepare for unsettled weather after regional authorities issued a yellow weather alert for severe thunderstorms through Thursday, July 2.
According to the regional civil protection service, a fast-moving weather system is expected to bring scattered thunderstorms beginning on Wednesday afternoon. Storms are forecast to develop first over the northern Apennines before spreading during the evening towards northwestern Tuscany, including the coast, and then inland.
On Thursday, showers and thunderstorms are expected across the entire region. Some storms could be particularly intense, bringing heavy downpours, strong wind gusts and localized hail.
A yellow alert is the lowest of Italy’s weather warning levels, but indicates the possibility of localized disruption and hazardous conditions. Heavy rainfall may lead to minor flooding, landslides in vulnerable areas and travel difficulties, particularly during intense thunderstorms.
Regional authorities advise residents to monitor weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during severe storms where possible and exercise caution near rivers, streams and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
