The orange alert will come into force at midnight tonight and remain in place until 6pm tomorrow.

During the afternoon, thunderstorms are forecast to spread to other parts of northern and central Tuscany. The regional authorities say an approaching Atlantic weather system will affect the region tomorrow, bringing thunderstorms that could be locally intense across much of Tuscany. Alongside the heavy rain, storms may bring strong or locally very strong wind gusts, hail and lightning.

People are advised to avoid entering flooded areas, including underpasses, low-lying areas and places known to be vulnerable to flooding; stay away from streams and avoid crossing or remaining on bridges during storms; remain indoors during the most intense weather and wait for conditions to improve before going outside; avoid outdoor activities while thunderstorms are at their strongest; stay away from trees and temporary structures; avoid areas near buildings where objects could be blown or fall. Residents should also take extra care because the storms may be accompanied by lightning, hail and sudden, powerful wind gusts.
