For the tenth consecutive year, the travelling World Press Photo exhibition makes a stop in Lucca. The church of San Cristoforo (via Fillungo) is the venue for the renowned photojournalism event, which closes December 14.

The exhibition features 143 works by 53 photographers from 25 different countries. Among the many photographs on display is the 2013 World Press Photo of the Year, captured by American John Stanmeyer of VII Photo Agency for National Geographic. Stanmeyer’s winning photograph shows African migrants on the shores of Djibouti, cell phones raised in the air, attempting to pick up a signal from neighbouring Somalia.

‘Saudade Moon,’ a related exhibition at Palazzo Ducale, highlights 33 black-and-white photographs by Paolo Marchetti, whose work earned him the 2013 Leica Photographers Award. Marchetti depicts a side of Brazil rarely seen in mainstream media.

Both exhibitions are open daily from 10am to 7.30pm (with the World Press Photo hours extended to 9pm on Saturdays). See http://photoluxfestival.it
