The famous street artist, Clet, whose designs adorn countless Florentine street signs, produced his final piece of street art last night.

The creation in the narrow Oltrarno street costa San Giorgio displays a face, mouth wide open, with three of his characteristic men running inside. A painting of Christ is displayed in the middle of the artist’s creation, sparking further debate about the choice of building. Complaints from an unhappy resident resulted in the Carabinieri being called in, who charged Clet with defacing the wall of the state-owned building, the former military medicine training college.

Clet Abraham commented, ‘They are paper, cardboard and plastic applications, lightly attached with glue. The wall, already old and damaged, has not been further affected at all.’ Clet has a popular following among Florentines and foreigners alike due to the provocative and contemporary nature of his artwork. This is not the first time Clet has come under criticism, with posts on his Facebook page from people, angry that he portrayed his art work next to a sacred image. In response, the artist said, ‘My vision is a non-conformist one. It will only bother those with a conformist outlook.’
