Noted Florentine singer Riccardo Azzurri, accompanied by Aleandro Baldi, recently released a video homage to his hometown, titled ‘Firenze Madre’ (‘Mother Florence,’ technically, but we prefer the idea that the Italian title conveys—an affection for his native city and home).

The video is now well on its way to viral status after Florentine film director, actor and screenwriter Leonardo Pieraccioni shared it on his Facebook fan page.

The song’s two triumphant choruses are translated below, but the video’s stunning images speak for themselves. What more could a Florence fan want?

Firenze madre, you make me smile Firenze madre, you are paradise In front of your monuments, hearts dream And for this reason I sing; I sing for you…

Firenze madre, Firenze Viola Your people win; they’re no longer alone And along your streets, so many great loves are still born today, For this reason I sing; I sing for you, I sing for you.
