Day One of stricter restrictions brought a feeling of deja-vu and despondency to the streets of Florence.

Now that coffee shops and restaurants may only operate takeaway and home deliveries, locals are loyally buying from their local haunts and eating their breakfast and lunch on the pietra serena benches. The atmosphere is not the same as in the spring lockdown as movements within the city limits are still permitted.

“There’s nothing new about these images,” admits photographer Francesco Spighi. “But the feeling around Florence is different, more troubled.”
