The influential illustrator and comic book artist Richard McGuire, a longtime contributor to The New Yorker, will be in Florence for a brief visit on Saturday, November 14, to present his graphic novel Qui (Here) at 6.30pm at Alzaia Libreria (viale don Minzoni 25/e). Through full-color illustrations, Here tells the story of a corner of a room and the events occuring there over hundreds of thousands of years. Originally released as a 6-page comic in 1989, Here was expanded to a full graphic novel, published by Pantheon in 2014. Chris Ware of The Guardian called the ambitious project ‘a mind-blowing book…A book like this comes along once a decade, if not a century.’

Beyond the many famous covers he’s created for The New Yorker, McGuire has had work featured in the New York Times, McSweeney’s, Le Monde, and Libération. His visit to Florence comes just two weeks after the 2015 edition of the Lucca Comics and Games showcase, which hosted a special exhibition of his work at Palazzo Ducale.
