The exhibition ‘Street Textiles’ is part of a photographic project from the Villa Lorenzi and Fashion Room bookshop in Florence. The exhibition showcases works from young people, aged 16-20, who are part of the group, 'Giovani per il Futuro'.

The idea behind the project wasn’t solely to highlight keen photographers or those already talented in the field, but simply to take to the streets with cameras at the ready and snap away. Even those who had never taken photos before were encouraged to take part. Professional photographer, Claudio Giovannini, from the photojournalism agency Cge, was brought in to discuss and choose the final artworks for the exhibition. He asked the young photographers to really look and discover the subject of the photos when deciding which works to exhibit. Linking the exhibition to fashion, Textiles was the chosen theme and organisers have also created all the frames using recycled materials found on the streets.

The chosen photographs for the exhibition are not necessarily the best shots in technical terms, but those which create the most impact in terms of colour and, once framed, were the most aesthetically pleasing.

The exhibition, Street Textiles, is free to attend and will be on display until January 7, 2015 at the Fashion Room Bookshop in via il Prato 7, Florence. See www.fashionroom.it for more information.
