Fill your glasses this April as wine-centric events are decanted throughout the region. From exhibitions to tastings, winery visits and festivals, you’ll be saying cin cin to Tuscany all month long.

 

 

Wine and art in the Valdarno

The springtime exhibition Alchemies between Land and Sky. Wine Culture in the Organic Age at Il Borro Wine & Art Gallery displays 100 works from Ferruccio Ferragamo’s collection and installations by Eva Sauer and Pamela Gori at the all-organic Valdarno winery. Highlights include an engraving of glasses and jars by French artist James Tissot, Marc Chagall’s still life of bottles, labours of the land sketched by Giovanni Fattori and German-born printmaker Hendrik Goltzius’ rendering of the grape harvest. The exhibition is an extension of the Vino&Arte Gallery, which includes a tasting of the estate’s wines. Upon reservation by email to winetour@ilborro.it.

 

 

Santé at Florence’s French Institute

Florence’s Institut Français in piazza Ognissanti is hosting a series of top-tier wine tasting events organized by Sonia Bertrand, in collaboration with Enoteca Bonatti and sommelier Anna Paclet of Michelin-starred restaurant Ora d’Aria. On April 6, at 6pm, think cinema as pinot noir is sipped with special guest Tuscan wine producers Federico Staderini and Stefano Amerighi. Later in the month, on April 20, Champagne is uncorked in all its bubbly glory at 6pm. For more information email corsi-firenze@institutfrancais.it.

 

 

Fonterutoli for fundraising

On April 15, the scenic Chianti Classico winery Fonterutoli opens its doors for charity. At midday and 4pm, tours for up to 40 people will be held around the contemporary yet classic cantina owned by the Mazzei family to raise funds for cancer charity Fondazione ANT. Cheers in Val d’Orcia

From April 21 to 28, the picturesque San Quirico d’Orcia showcases its local wines with a week’s worth of tastings, winery visits, concerts, exhibitions and children’s activities at the Orcia Wine Festival. Take part in the Orcia Wine Scenes photo tour, join the producers for dinner at local restaurants (details to be confirmed) and go hiking in the Val d’Orcia hills. British art at a Tuscan castle

 

 

The magical Castello di Gabbiano, founded in 1124, provides a matchless setting for British artist Elizabeth Orchard’s canvas and silks exhibition, titled “Lost Worlds”, on until October 31 (by appointment only). The diaphanous hand-painted drapes stir at the castle's windows and pure Tuscan light steals over the pensive paintings.
