Until January 6, bars in the old city centre of Florence and in the Cascine park are not allowed to sell alcoholic drinks from 9pm to 6am.
Prefect Luigi Varratta signed off on the legislation, which prohibits both sale of alcohol to drink on the premises and to take away. The measure applies to all businesses, including shops, street traders, bars and hotels. At the Cascine it is also prohibited ‘to be in possession of containers of alcoholic drinks, which due to their quantity may not be intended for personal use.’
This measure has been taken to improve public law, order and security after recent episodes of fighting and aggressive behaviour among people under the influence of alcohol, which has resulted in serious acts of vandalism and disturbance of the peace.
