Many of those who enjoy skiing in Tuscany know that the Toscana Neve website (www.toscananeve.it) provides full snow reports for the ski areas throughout the region. Now some handy apps have been developed to allow skiers to check weather, slope conditions and more.

The mountain section of the LaMMa Toscana app provides useful real-time information about snowfall, visibility, ice, intense cold and avalanches (available from iTunes and Google Play Store for Android and iPhone in Italian and English).

In Italian only but with real-time images that speak for themselves, the new Abetone app (available from iTunes and Google Play Store) has been developed by individual ski resorts to enable winter sports lovers to check the state of the slopes and the lifts. The app also offers an emergency call service and displays GPS coordinates.

In addition, iNeveItalia, Navionics Ski, Skiinfo and weSki (the latter for Android only) are just some of the applications that provide access to a vast database of maps as well as identifying the level of difficulty of the slopes, geolocating refuges and points of interest, and recording the pistes as the skier completes them.
