With this exhibition, the city of Lucca pays homage to its distinguished citizen Pompeo Batoni on the 300th anniversary of his birth. Batoni studied in Lucca, Rome and then England, where he became one of the most famous painters of the British aristocracy. Two other international exhibitions have recently been dedicated to this painter, one at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the other at the National Gallery in London. The exhibition in Lucca completes this international itinerary and contains the most comprehensive collection of works by the artist.
