Viola players in national teams

 

After the first match of the season, many of the Viola players went their separate ways to play for their national teams. Alberto Gilardino, Riccardo Montolivo and Lorenzo De Silvestri trained in Coverciano, outside of Florence, for the Italian team headed by ex-Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli. Among the other players training with their national teams: goalkeeper Artur Boruc for Poland, Manuel Vargas as the captain for Peru, Mario Bolatti for Argentina, Per Kroldrup for Denmark and Adem Ljajic for Serbia’s Under 21 national team.

 

Advantages for Orgoglio Viola

Besides free entrance to all of the Fiorentina’s home games, those who have the Orgoglio Viola card can also attend all the matches for the Fiorentina’s three youth teams: Giovanissimi, Allievi and Primavera.

 

Montolivo receives award

On September 9, Viola captain Montolivo was awarded the Torrino d’Oro, special recognition of a person who has served the city proudly. At the awards ceremony, Montolivo said that not only was he honored to receive the award, but that he feels at home in Florence and with the team.

 

Fiorentina lose to Lecce

On September 12, the Fiorentina arrived in Lecce for its second match of the season. Lecce, which made its way back to the Serie A after winning first place in Serie B last year, scored its first goal within the first 10 minutes of the match. In the second half, Kroldrup’s goal was cancelled for being offside. The Fiorentina was unable to score a goal after 90 minutes of play and lost 1-0 to Lecce.

 

Extreme fair play

For the first two games of the season, the team experienced errors on the part of the referees. In the first game, a ‘phantom’ goal was awarded to the opposing team, and in the second, one goal in favor of the Fiorentina was cancelled. In an announcement on September 14, ACF Fiorentina stated that their fans’ reaction to the errors was exemplary, showing an attitude of extreme fair play. In the statement, the team asked officials for more respect and greater attention to avoid errors in future matches.

 

Lorenzo Amoruso back with the Fiorentina

ACF Fiorentina has announced that ex-Viola soccer player Lorenzo Amoruso has become a part of the team’s technical staff.

 

Mihajlovic is our leader

On September 15, Alessandro Gamberini held a press conference and discussed the team, the last two matches and his physical condition. Besides naming head coach Mihajlovic as the team’s leader, Gamberini said that the turning point for the team was coming.

 

Third match not a charm for the Fiorentina

For the second home game of the season, the Fiorentina had hoped for better

results. Ljajic scored his first goal, a penalty kick, in the Serie A for the team in the first half of the match.

 

Lazio scored two goals, one in each half, winning the match 1-2.

 

The Fiorentina finished in 18th place, the worst beginning to the season that the team has had in years.
