George Clooney was recently selected to play the
leading role in the film version of The
Monster of Florence, to be made by Fox 2000.
The book, which hit the New York Times’ bestseller
list for nonfiction, follows author Douglas Preston, who, having developed an
interest in an unsolved serial murder-between 1974 and 1985, seven couples were
brutally slain in remote areas just outside Florence-moves to a farmhouse in
Tuscany and joins Italian crime reporter Mario Spezi to solve the 30-year-old
case.
By the time Preston and Spezi got on
the case, few leads were still live, and in the course of their investigation
both were briefly imprisoned by Italian authorities.
In commenting on the announcement, Clooney remarked
that he is happy to shoot another film in Italy, which the actor calls his second home.
