The
latest book by bestselling author Dan Brown will focus on ‘the truth’ behind
Dante’s Divine Comedy. The new novel, which comes out in the United States, the
United Kingdom and Italy on May 14, will be called Inferno and also star
Harvard professor and symbologist Robert Langdon, main protagonist of Brown’s
bestseller The Da Vinci Code, which has been read by 80 million readers
worldwide.

Brown
studied the Divine Comedy at school but says ‘it wasn’t until recently, while
researching in Florence, that I came to appreciate the enduring influence of
Dante’s work on the modern world.’ Brown promises that the new book will ‘take
readers on a journey deep into this mysterious realm’ of the Divine Comedy, ‘a
landscape of codes, symbols, and more than a few secret passageways.’

This
year also marks the tenth anniversary of the release of The Da Vinci Code, and
Brown’s Italian publisher, Mondadori, will release a special edition on March
12 in honour of the event.
