Injury woes and recoveries

Croatian striker Ante Rebic and Slovenian midfielder Josip Ilicic have been struck by injuries, causing a headache for Fiorentina manager Montella. Fortunately, Juan Cuadrado and Giuseppe Rossi have both recovered from their respective injuries, while superstar Mario Gomez is still out.

European high

Fiorentina was able to snag a 1–2 victory against Ukrainian adversary Dnipro and rise to the top of their group. In the dying minutes, David Pizarro was sent off by the referee and will miss the next European clash against Romanian team Pandurii.

No goals in Rome

Lazio had the best scoring opportunities, but were held to a 0–0 draw by Fiorentina. The fatigue from Thursday’s Europa League games had clearly taken its toll on both teams as the tempo dropped considerably in the second half.

National commitments

Fiorentina players Giuseppe Rossi, Manuel Pasqual and Alberto Aquilani have been named by Italian national coach Cesare Prandelli for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Denmark and Armenia.

Upcoming

Fiorentina can now enjoy a rest until October 20 due to the players’ international duties.
