The grassroots phenomenon ‘Invasioni Digitali’ is back this year from April 24 to May 4, 2014, after making unexpected headlines in 2013. Brainchild of Fabrizio Todisco and supported by an ever-growing team, the annual event is intended to promote digital sharing of culture. ‘Invaders’ enter museums and cultural locations to carry out a digital, pacific ‘attack’, gathering photos and content to share online.

Participation in the #invasionidigitali is free. Each invasion is organized by volunteers, and it’s nice to let them know how many people to expect, so you’ll have to sign up on Eventbrite. Here are the invasions taking place in Florence:

Monday April 28

Museo Marino Marini

A free guided tour for invaders of this event organized by Tuscany’s social media team. See the museum dedicated to Marino Marini’s contemporary sculpture as well as the Renaissance Rucellai Chapel. Sign up here.

Monday April 28

Palazzo Vecchio

A free guided tour of key areas of Palazzo Vecchio for invaders of this event organized by Tuscany’s social media team. After visiting the Salone dei Cinquecento, seeing Michelangelo’s Victory and Donatello’s Judith and Holofernes, you’ll have time to climb the Torre di Arnolfo and take some great photos from above Florence. Sign up here.

Wednesday April 30, 7pm

Museo Stefano Bardini

Organized by Stefania Chipa, the hashtag for this event is #blubardini. Visiting the museum is free, and there is also a free tasting of organic cookies and bread! This museum is famous for its blue walls – explore, photograph and share them by signing up here.

Wednesday April 30

Eduardo Secci Contemporary (via Maggio 51r)

A special opening of this contemporary art gallery coincides with the Notte Bianca, and you can invade the space for free. No registration required.

Saturday May 3

Museo Archaeologico Nazionale, 10:30am

Marina Lo Blundo and the Archeotoscana social media team are offering this special opportunity to visit, photograph and share the archaeology museum’s garden. Sign up here.

Sunday May 4

Museo di Storia Naturale sezione Antropologia e Etnologia

Finally, the communications team led by Alba Scarpellini at the Museo di Storia Naturale Firenze invites you to play digital dress-up with the collections of accessories and clothing from some 20,000 years ago! Picture yourself in Paleolithic furs and make that your new profile photo. Sign up here.

If you’re planning to get out of town for the weekend, fear not – this event is Italy wide, and there are plenty of opportunities to invade in the provinces of Siena, Grosseto and beyond! For invasions in Tuscany or in other areas of Italy please see www.invasionidigitali.it.
