Tuscany, often marketed as a romantic destination, is also a top spot for a female-friend-group getaway.

Readers of USA Today, the most widely circulated newspaper in the United States, and 10Best.com, a division of the paper’s travel section, named Tuscany the number three spot on a list of ‘Best Girls’ Trips.’

Not only was Tuscany the only large region on the city-focused list but it was the single destination outside the United States, outranked only by Charleston, South Carolina and Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The list attributed Tuscany’s allure as a ‘girls’ getaway’ spot to the ongoing bestseller status of countless travelogues and memoirs about the region, including Frances Mayes’ iconic 1996 book Under the Tuscan Sun, which continues to attract interest in the region.
