Did you come to Florence’s rescue in 1966 when the Arno flooded its banks and the city’s treasures risked ruin? Ahead of next year’s 50th anniversary commemorations, The Florentine is seeking first-hand accounts from the countless people within Florence’s international community who roused into action. We’d like to speak with the city’s heroes and heroines, to document personal stories, collate photography and memories. Please drop us a line at redazione@theflorentine.net.

‘What we were doing was dictated by the desire to give back the traces of the history of the past to future generations, so that it could be used for the spiritual growth of people who perhaps had yet to be born…it was the international community that worked to try to save Florence, this unique patrimony which belonged to the whole world.’ — Mario Primicerio, Speciale Alluvione
