Feeling bubbly? Head to Vinoutlet for a summery serata with sips, light snacks and spirited conversation: take a look at the shop’s evolving bar-style setup and enjoy a rosé aperitivo for just 5 euro. Proceeds from the event will go toward production costs for forthcoming project TheFLR: The Florentine Literary Review, a beautifully illustrated literary magazine in Italian and English. A member of TF staff will be on hand to answer questions about the project and crowdfunding campaign, which has only 11 days left!

British punk and new wave pioneer Elvis Costello, active since the 1970s, comes to Teatro Verdi on his worldwide “Detour” tour. Named one of Rolling Stone’s 100 greatest artists of all time, his hits like “Less than Zero” and “Accidents Will Happen” have influenced major artists from Radiohead to Suzanne Vega. Costello’s Florence concert is one of 7 stops in Italy. The whole community is welcome at a Memorial Day ceremony organized by the American consulate in Florence. The ceremony will take place at the 70-acre Military Cemetery just south of Florence, where 4,402 Americans who died in Italy during World War II are buried. The average age of the fallen is about 22 years old, and most were members of the Fifth United States Army, dying in the ensuing battles after the capture of Rome in June 1944. The cemetery is on the west side of via Cassia. SITA buses run frequently and there is a stop just outside the gate. For additional information, call 055/2020020.

As part of IlMaggioDeiLibri, a nation-wide celebration of reading, the Harold Acton Library will host a special guest at this Thursday’s afternoon tea: Sarah Dunant, author of several books set during Renaissance Italy, including The Birth of Venus and In the Company of the Courtesan. Sarah will give a lecture titled “From the mind to the page: the birthing pains of a new novel.” The event is open to library members (one-day membership options are also available for 5 euro).
