Every summer, New York University’s Villa La Pietra hosts The Season, a varied, interdisciplinary series of live readings, concerts and theatrical performances, all offering free entry and taking place in the villa’s most jaw-dropping settings. This year’s edition runs until August 23 and opens on Sunday evening with EROS ΕΡΩΣ, a performance of ancient Greek Lyric poetry by the Ensemble Melpomen, which is also the inaugural concert for the Salon Sanctuary series. Reservations are required for all of The Season’s events: email lapietra.reply@nyu.edu. June 7–12
Spazio Alfieri and various venues in Florence

festival-del-viaggio

Explore the world right here in the Renaissance city! With editions in Palermo and Florence, this festival features travel-themed film screenings, exhibitions, lectures and events. Given that 2016 is the Jubilee Year of Mercy, with pilgrimage a frequent topic of discussion, one of this year’s main themes is traveling on foot (mark your calendar for a barefoot walk through the Cascine on June 12 at 10.30am; email viaggi@festivaldelviaggio.it for more information.) This week’s highlights include the opening talk (in Italian) on airships in the Sala Ferri at Palazzo Strozzi (5.30pm, June 7) and a Siberia-themed exhibition by Russian photographer Oleg Kugaev (opening 6pm, June 8, Spazio Alfieri). View the full program here.

Others include Siberian DJ Nina Kraviz, a fixture on the international club scene; 26-year-old Tuscan producer Marco Faraone; and the “mainstream-resistant” Germans Santé and Sidney Charles. XL Day will shake the Cascine from noon to midnight. Ticket information is available here.

Le Murate, piazza delle Murate, Florence

floor-robert-fabbrica-europa

Part of the eclectic performing and visual arts series Fabbrica Europa, this debut production by Dutch choreographer Floor Robert is a reflection on childhood and its characteristic spirit of discovery, asking viewers to examine what it is they’ve lost as they’ve grown up–curiosity? Innocence? Something more? Floor will perform with Giacomo Bogani and Andrea Falcone.  Seating is limited and reservations are required: call 055 2638480 or email promozione@ffeac.org.
