Ruffino has been making “quality wine” since 1877, when founding cousins Ilario and Leopoldo laid the foundations of what continue to be the historical cellars and headquarters in the Tuscan town of Pontassieve. Now, in 2023, Ruffino is elevating the world-famous brand through design and product development.
“This is an important step that we care about deeply, which we are developing with the utmost attention and dedication,” explains Sandro Sartor, President and Managing Director of Ruffino. “Ruffino is a brand that is well-known worldwide, with a range of wines that meet the many needs and wishes of enthusiasts, who expect different traits and nuances from each of our products. As a result, our image must succeed in communicating this plenitude, without ever betraying the values held by our wines. We are in a pivotal moment for the brand, with unprecedented efforts towards achieving outstanding quality of the wines. We want to become an absolute benchmark for top-tier Tuscan wines. Also, the Renaissance spaces at Poggio Casciano have been elevated to reflect Ruffino’s brand ambitions, calling on the expertise of b-arch, an architectural firm founded by Alessandro Capellaro and Sabrina Bignami, in addition to Màkia, Philip Adiutori’s landscape architecture studio.”
“Taking part in the elevation of a historic brand is always an exciting adventure,” comments Sabrina Bignami. “Awareness of the architecture and design have gone hand in hand with a pursuit for originality, adding layers of memory and culture as well as looking for new ways of experiencing the space that draw from tradition and contemporary living. The concept for Poggio Casciano is centred on that uniquely Italian way of being elegant and natural at the same time.”
The Poggio Casciano Estate now offers several ways to experience Ruffino, including the Tre Rane restaurant, the Enoteca with a gorgeous garden for refined appetizers, the Casa Ruffino boutique hotel with 8 rooms, and a wide range of tours and tastings.

Ristorante Tre Rane Ruffino
In the second half of the fifteenth century, the young Leonardo, who was a student of Verrocchio at the time, had the idea of opening an inn on Florence’s Ponte Vecchio with his lifelong friend Sandro Botticelli. He believed that his innovative cooking style would embody fine dining and healthy eating and elevate to a new level the meaning of togetherness, as well as earning him some cash on the side. He called it “Le Tre Rane”. Ruffino decided to name its restaurant based on this tale. Expect a focus on seasonal ingredients and local produce. Identity, creativity and expertise are the ingredients put to use in refined cuisine that cares about tradition. Discover the new menu on our website.
