This February 14, Florence is filled with amore as a packed line-up of romantic events sets us swooning. From romantic escapes and luxury spas to the intimacy of Tuscan dining experiences, here is The Florentine’s guide to Valentine’s Day in Florence and Tuscany.

Asmana Wellness World

Only a half an hour drive from Florence, the Asmana Wellness Spa has a variety of options for a Valentine’s Day retreat or a gift voucher for a loved one. The Saturnia Romance experience comprises a minimum two-night stay, which starts with sparkling wine and pâtisserie, a romantic gourmet tasting menu dinner, room service breakfasts and access to the numerous spa experiences, including a couples massage. Terme di Chianciano

Located in the province of Siena, Terme di Chianciano invites couples to choose between a range of romantic experiences this Valentine’s. The Sensi dell’Amore experience, on February 10 and 14, takes couples through 20 sensory experiences between 8 and 11pm, followed by a tasting of local specialties. Also on the 14th, the Theia in Love evening includes a bath-robed dinner with live music. The Bagni di Notte experience on the 10th allows couples to go on a nighttime visit of the Theia thermal pools, while the Day Spa Love Edition package, with access to the sensory baths and the Theia pools, has been extended until February 25.

Culture

Charity fun run

Returning for its fourth edition, the #RunForLove campaign challenges couples to run a combined distance of 9km (4.5km each) for the Meyer Children’s Hospital. Anyone running in pairs can choose when and where they run, between February 10 and 14, and donations of 9 euro per person will go towards the children’s hospital and their Play Therapy project. For an additional 5 euro donation, runners can order this year’s #RunForMeyer t-shirt, and prizes will be given to the fastest couples, the largest group and those with the T shirts of every previous year. Romeo + Juliet exhibition at Fondazione Zeffirelli

At the Zeffirelli Foundation on piazza San Firenze, an exhibition entitled Romeo & Giulietta exhibits the original costumes from the 1968 adaptation of the tragic love story, directed by Franco Zeffirelli. To add to the romantic atmosphere, projections of the film are screened all day to present the costumes in their original context. Entrance to the exhibition, which ends on February 18, is included with the general admission to the museum, costing 12 euro.

Strings at Palazzo Pucci

The Ensemble Bisentium String Quartet will take to the magical Palazzo Pucci on February 14 for a candlelit evening of romantic music. In two concerts at different timeslots, the quartet will play a selection of well-known love songs from the big screen, including ‘Love Theme’ from Cinema Paradiso, ‘All You Need is Love’ from Love Actually and ‘City of Stars’ from La La Land. Tickets are available for a 7.30 or 9.30pm start through booking platform Fever.

Latin Love Lesson

Forte Academy is offering a workshop in Latin language, for beginners to learn some vocabulary on the theme of love and how to translate some basic phrases. Through the ancient poets Catullus and Ovid, attendees will be introduced to Latin Love elegy, and can choose their favourite quotes to make a greetings card to give to that special someone. Booking must be completed by February 13 via email to info@forte-academy.co.uk, and the experience costs 10 euro per person, with all materials included. Palazzo Vecchio Visits

Lovers climb to the great heights of Palazzo Vecchio’s Arnolfo Tower for a toast to amore. On February 14, the Municipality of Florence and MUS.E offer visits to the walkway and tower from 7-8.30pm (reservations required), with the 223 steps allowing you to reach the stunning panoramic spot. Live music from musicians of the La Philarmonie orchestra adds to the sense of occasion, with a glass of Chianti Classico 2021 DOCG thanks to Bistrot 74 and Carpineto Grandi Vini di Toscana. The British Institute Lecture: Love in Renaissance Art

On February 14th at 6pm, art historian Elaine Ruffolo will be giving a special lecture in the Harold Acton Library for Valentine’s day, focusing on famous renaissance artworks that celebrate love and marriage. The lecture can be attended online or in-person, and will be followed by Basilica Cafoggio wine for those in presence. The registration fee in 12 euro per person, and booking is available online.

Valentine’s at Manifattura

Manifattura Tabacchi have a range of offerings this Valentine’s. ‘Love Letters‘ by SUPERDUPER celebrates love in all its forms by providing the opportunity to get a message written inside your hat. The ‘Oh, my darling Valentine!’ offer by fitness studio LOSTUDIOESSE is from February 10-17, allowing participants to attend 4/8 classes and bring a special guest. Additionally, there’s the ‘Pure Relax‘ facial treatment by Blues Barber, and plenty of spots for a sweet or savoury treat onsite.
