The 2026 midterm elections in the United States will, once again, determine which party will control Congress as all seats in the House of Representative are up for grabs, as are a third of the seats in the Senate. While the national elections are not until November, states will be holding their primary elections starting in March, and all registered American voters, including those living abroad, can participate in these primary elections to determine the candidates to be put forward on the November ballot.

If you haven’t requested your ballot yet, the easiest way to do so is via www.votefromabroad.org, which also provides a host of support functions, including a help desk for any questions you may have along the way. College students aged 18 and older studying in Florence can request their ballots at students.votefromabroad.org. These are both non-partisan online platforms provided by Democrats Abroad as a public service and do not promote either major U.S. political party. Ballot requests can also be made via www.FVAP.gov, the U.S. government website for military and overseas voters, which has fewer help resources.
All of these platforms allow you to register and request your ballot in one step, using the same form, and will then assist you in submitting that form to your U.S.-based Local Election Official. This will ensure that all primary ballots and national ballots will be sent to you, by email if so requested, as soon as they become available.
As each state has its own rules and timelines for requesting and submitting ballots which can be confusing, Vote From Abroad volunteers will be organizing voter assistance events in central Florence starting this spring and running through the November election. More information will be provided on these events as they are announced.
In the meantime, U.S. citizens with any voting related questions can email votefromabroaditaly@gmail.com.
