Running concurrently with the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition in Pisa is another show with a French connection. Through February 14, 2016, Lu.C.C.A. Lucca Center of Contemporary Art is hosting De Chirico, Savinio and Les Italiens de Paris.

Through approximately 50 works, the show highlights seven Italian artists who met in Paris in 1928 to work within the Ritorno all’ordine (‘Return to order’) movement: Giorgio de Chirico, Alberto Savinio, Massimo Campigli, Filippo De Pisis, René Paresce, Gino Severini and Mario Tozzi.

Ritorno all’ordine is regarded by many critics as an artistic movement on a par with Futurism and Surrealism. Rejecting the avant-garde and seeking to reaffirm Renaissance elements of art, ‘ritorno all’ordine’ was a reaction to World War I. The principles of the movement were given a voice through the Rome-based magazine Valori Plastici.

The exhibition closes with a tribute to Giorgio de Chirico, created in 1968 by Ezio Gribaudo, author and personal friend of the ‘Maestro metafisica.’ Hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 10am–7pm.
