One of the world’s most important annual youth tournaments, which in the past has brought to light some of Italy’s greatest soccer players, such as Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero, opened on February 1, in the Tuscan seaside city of Viareggio.

 

The 62nd Viareggio Cup, which until this year was called the Coppa Carnevale, will be nationally broadcast for the first time on Raisportpiù, and be also be available on Web TV at http://webtv.viareggiocup.it.

 

The international event hosts 48 Under-20 teams from five continents, hailing from countries like the United States, Lithuania, Brazil, China, Australia, Sierra Leone, Ukraine, Slovenia and Poland. The youth teams from some of Italy’s top Serie A clubs, among them the Juventus, Internazionale, Milan, Naples, Fiorentina, Sampdoria, Roma and Lazio, are also participating in the tourney.

 

This year’s event included for the first time an Under 15 championship, which ran from February 10 to 13 at the Torquato Bresciani stadium in Viareggio.
