La Fierucola brings the best of biodiversity with crafts and homemade products by small-scale producers filling up stalls in popular piazzas. The Fierucolina takes place in piazza del Carmine from 9am to 2pm on February 9 and in piazza Santo Spirito from 9am to 7pm on February 16.
Every second Sunday of the month, the Mangiasano bio market brings together a group of farmers and crafters in piazza Buondelmonti in Impruneta to present everything from in season fruit and vegetables to olive oil, wine, cheese, meat, leather goods, honey, jams, bread, ceramics, cosmetics and bio soap and products for the home. The next market takes place on February 9.
Comics, vinyl and vintage join household objects, rare books and more in the packed stands of the Vintage Market in piazza dei Ciompi from 9am to 8pm on February 22-23. T: 3483310579
Sagra delle frittelle, the traditional fritter festival returns. The popular carnival treat is celebrated in San Donato in Collina between Bagno a Ripoli and Rignano sull’Arno. Saturdays and Sundays until March 19.
On the lookout for where to watch The Big Game on February 9? The Hard Rock Cafe on via dei Brunelleschi 1 has the whole show on the maxi screen (streamed in Italian from 11pm-4am), live from Caesars Superdome, with a hip-hop and modern dance show by the Florence Dance Center to set the mood. A dedicated menu sustains you through the marathon match.
Book your spotA reading group dedicated to translated literature and literature about translation, with a special focus on practices of feminist translation, takes place in English at Biblioteca Femminista on via Fiesolana 2b until March. Presented as part of The Other Words project coordinated between Edinburgh and Florence, discussions are based around the complex ideas surrounding the translation of literature. February 6 will be a discussion of Brandy Sour by Constantia Soteriou, translated by Lina Protopapa.
Get your ticketsAn elephant-bee, bumblebee-bear and wild boar-fish join an all-seeing starfish as some of the fantastical creatures on display alongside mythological subjects like the Hydra, dragons and Cipactli. The artworks by Arianna Fioratti Loreto are inspired by the science fiction story of the same name created with Marco Masseti, published by Edizioni Polistampa. On show are 70 medium- and large-sized works that celebrate the natural and animal worlds.

The Italian-fusion dinner series, SAPORITA Supper Club, meets at the B.East art gallery from 7.30pm on February 6 for a Brazilian-Italian feast. St Mark’s English Church (via Maggio 16) holds a Bring and Share lunch on the third Sunday of each month. At 6pm, on February 19, there will be a theatre production of The Beloved Son.

The Wednesday Lectures Series continues with Lisa Kaborycha speaking on February 5 about ‘Voices from the Renaissance’, Katia Lysy gives a talk on ‘Iris Origo and Villa La Foce’ on February 12, Alan Pascuzzi delivers a lecture titled ‘How they were seen’ on February 19, and Alessio Assonitis discusses ‘The Invention of Cosimo I de’ Medici’ on February 26. The Jazz al British series sees Stefano Maurizi and Mirco Mariottini perform a piano and clarinet concert on February 6 while Music al British features pianist Maria Martinova playing Debussy and tango on February 20. The Meet the Author event this month is Laura Rose Gray with her book The Magpie’s Guide to Montalcino. Bridge is weekly on Tuesdays, with afternoon tea served on Wednesdays.
Sotto al British (lungarno Guicciardini 15) hosts life drawing led by Tom J. Byrne weekly on Mondays from 7-9pm with Lori Hetherington steering ‘Brainstorming for writers’ on February 18.
Librokilo gives you the chance to purchase a wide selection of books for 10 euro per kilogram at the B12 space in Manifattura Tabacchi. With over 10,000 books to choose from and covering all genres, the carefully curated range of new and pre-owned volumes are given a new life. You can also bring up to 5kg of your own books, dropping them off either from 3-7pm on January 31, or on the day itself. In return, you’ll receive a voucher to use at the event. As part of her Studiolo Series, Paola Vojnovic hosts a conversation on February 1 with Nicholas Todhunter dedicated to Florentine born John Singer Sargent on the 100th anniversary of his death.
The Florence Literary Society holds a writing workshop on beginnings and endings with Mark Jarman on February 8, looking at tips and tricks used by the likes of James Joyce, Alice Munro, Flannery O’Connor and Denis Johnson. Free ticketed event for members and non-members.
Lìlà Toys (via Maggio 78r) hosts a ‘Make a mask’ workshop on February 1, a reading for little ones aged 3+ on February 5+12, with a workshop titled Calzini Spaiati on February 7. Gruppo Ama meets on February 11, a self-help group for parents. Mindfulness for those aged 3 and over is on February 14 and the ‘Incolliamo il Mondo’ workshop is on February 19 for kids aged 1+.
