Secondary initiatives to promote city-cebtre shopping have met with approval.

Although the lifting of the ban on motor vehicles in the centre of Florence on Saturday afternoons sparked great controversy, other measures created to encourage shoppers to return to the historical centre have been met with more positive reactions.

The program, “Florentine Saturdays,” includes various initiatives in public transportation. All electric buses circulating in the centre will be free on Saturday afternoons, from 15:00 onward. Bicycles can be rented for 0.50 cents for the entire day. Taxis will also offer a discount for clients who have made acquisitions in the centre. In addition, several central streets will be open only to pedestrian traffic. Via San Niccolò and Via dei Servi have already been closed, and Via dell’Orto, Via Maggio, Via Pietrapiana, and Via de’Macci might follow suit.
