Our first Instagram challenge, #TheFlorentineinme, received 134 entries. Lots of instagramers explored the city with our newspaper, but we are a stickler for the rules, choosing winners who respected the challenge of creatively working The Florentine into the image.

Topping the list and winning a steak dinner for two at Red Garter is Marianne Regen, aka @Mazstarry, an aspiring photographer studying in Florence at the moment. Marianne’s winning image of a paper airplane is highly evocative, though other her other entries are worth a special mention, too!

Second prize goes to Diana C. D. Pietrzyk (@ptrzykd on Instagram), a student at Columbia College Chicago, for her very reflective image of a friend pausing to listen to and photograph street performers in piazza della Repubblica. She also submitted other images that were contenders. Diana will enjoy a vegetarian dinner for two at kosher restaurant Ruth’s.

Third prize winner @OliviaKasa cleverly got statues to read TF, earning her a full English breakfast for two at The Diner.

The fourth and fifth prizes go to two sweet ladies reading TF in attractive locations, @Amyyounger1, who gets bagels and coffee at Mama’s Bakery and @FionainFlorence, who will enjoy cake and coffee or tea at Le Vespe Cafe & Kitchen.

With thanks to all who participated, and to our sponsors for the great prizes, we say: keep exploring, keep snapping!
