Rome’s historic Ponte Sisto, the pedestrian bridge connecting the Campo de’ Fiori neighbourhood with Trastevere, will have a featured role in the next 007 film when it is the site of a parachute landing by James Bond, played by Daniel Craig.
The script calls for Bond to run through borgo Vittorio near the Vatican, race down corso Vittorio Emanuele II and dodge the heavy traffic along the Lungotevere beside the Tiber river.
Due for release next autumn, this is the 24th film in the James Bond series. From February 19 to March 12, filming will take place in three main Rome locations before moving to the Royal Palace of Caserta, northeast of Naples. Director Sam Mendes is known for his work on the 2012 Bond film Skyfall, which also starred Craig. Besides the landing on the fifteenth-century Ponte Sisto, other stunts will include a car plunge into the Tiber.
The film will also mark Craig’s fourth appearance as Bond and the third that includes major scenes shot in Italy. The British actor made his debut as the master spy in the 2006 film Casino Royale, followed by Quantum of Solace in 2008, which featured a series of chases in the medieval centre of Siena.
