Scheduled to open on September 19, 2024, Florence-based architectural firm Archea is behind the restoration and renovation. Famous for designing the Antinori winery in Chianti Classico as well as the new Viola Park Fiorentina training ground, reviving the age-old theatre in central Florence is the brainchild of starchitect Marco Casamonti, and his team Giovanni Polazzi, Laura Andreini and Massimo Sabatini. In a meeting of minds, Florence resident and Canada-born theatre impresario Hershey Felder has been appointed artistic director and managing director of the newly revived Teatro della Signoria, formerly Teatro Nazionale.

“I am most happy to say that our meeting led to my now being the artistic director and managing director of a theatre in my hometown, where I am able to bring international artists and productions as well as world-class Italian artists to the stage in a fully restored multifunctional historic theatre one block from the world-famous piazza della Signoria in the centre of Florence,” comments Felder. “Programming will be guided towards both the international and Italian audience with individualized subtitles in all ticket buyer languages. There will be musical events, theatrical events, cinema events, superstars and new-yet-to-be-discovered talents. Two productions will play in repertory in six-month slots, five nights a week, with two exclusive artist events two nights a week. Our after hours jazz club will have the finest jazz throughout the season and our members’ club will offer exclusive performances for an intimate audience as well as star chef dining experiences regularly introducing new world-class chefs and inventive Tuscan cuisine. The theatre and our three spaces are being restored with the addition of world-class technology in all aspects of production and presentation.”
