The Salone dei Cinquecento at Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio provided a grand setting today for the 2026 Tuscan American Award ceremony, an annual event dedicated to strengthening the cultural, economic and social bonds between Tuscany and the United States.

The award is presented each year by the Tuscan American Association, an organization committed to celebrating and expanding the long-standing relationship between the two regions across multiple sectors.

The occasion opened in the presence of numerous institutional, civil, and military authorities, as well as members of the association. Co-presidents Maurizio Mancianti and Andrea L. Davis welcomed guests and introduced the program. City councillor Giovanni Bettarini delivered official greetings, while U.S. Consul General in Florence Daniela Ballard addressed the audience in both Italian and English, praising the initiative and its significance.

The ceremony proceeded with the presentation of awards, each preceded by a brief interview with the recipients. The first honoree was Arturo Galansino, a distinguished art historian and director general of Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi. The award recognized the foundation’s role as one of Italy’s leading cultural institutions, noted for its collaborations with major American artists and museums. Its U.S.-based non-profit arm, the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation USA, was highlighted as an example of successful cultural partnership between Tuscany and the United States.

The second award was presented to the Menarini Group, the largest Italian pharmaceutical company operating globally. Alberto Aleotti, shareholder and board member, accepted the honor and discussed the group’s future initiatives. Menarini was recognized not only for its international scientific and industrial achievements, particularly in Europe and the United States, but also for promoting ethical leadership through initiatives such as the Fair Play Menarini Foundation.

The ceremony continued with recognition of Coldwell Banker, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious real estate networks. The award specifically marked the opening of its Florence office, accepted by Rino Moscariello, board advisor Italy. The expansion was cited as a significant contribution to strengthening both Italian and American real estate markets and encouraging cross-border investment.

The final award of the evening was presented to the Andrea Bocelli Foundation, represented by president Stefano Aversa. In his remarks, Aversa outlined the foundation’s ongoing projects aimed at supporting communities facing poverty, illiteracy and social hardship. The foundation was honored for its mission to empower individuals and communities through initiatives in education, healthcare and social development, both in Italy and internationally, including efforts connected to the United States.

The ceremony ended with a cocktail reception held in the San Firenze building, generously made available by the Andrea Bocelli Foundation, offering attendees an opportunity to continue conversations in a more informal setting.
