Summer at San LorenzoAugust 10Piazza San Lorenzo and historic center of Florence

In August, it can feel like most of Florence has flown the coop. But loyal San Lorenzo residents stick around for the feast day of their neighborhood’s namesake, held every year on August 10. Watch the historic court parade through town beginning at about 10am, but post-7pm is when the fun really gets going: head to the piazza for music, dancing, free watermelon and lasagna. Don’t get so caught up in the party that you miss the Perseids meteor shower, which peaks on this night. Feast your eyes on the starry skies, dotted with San Lorenzo’s ‘tears’.

OUT OF TOWN/Divine Beauty: Screening & Sightseeing Until September 30 Piazza del Duomo, Sienawww.divinabellezza.com

The high-impact show ‘Divine Beauty: Discovering Siena’ got Tuscany talking earlier this summer with its innovative fusion of art, culture and avant-garde technology. A video mapping experience in five acts, the show takes an in-depth look at Siena’s cathedral. The show runs in multiple languages every night after sunset, and now the Centro Guide Siena is offering a pre-show evening tour to round out your experience of the city. Offered in English and Italian, the tour kicks off every evening at 6pm at the info point in piazza del Duomo. The cathedral, Santa Maria della Scala, piazza Campo, and Palazzo Pubblico are all stops along the tour, and participants will also get a chance to try traditional cheeses, wines and meats from the region. Sign up and start planning your Siena outing: call 057/7286300 or email siena@c-way.it.
