On April 1, Florence’s botanical gardens, known as Giardino dei Semplici, reopened after repairs to the extensive damage caused by the September 19, 2014, hail storm.

The garden, located on via Pier Antonio Micheli, is open from 10am to 5.30pm, every day but Wednesday, currently at a reduced rate of three euro. (It will be closed over Easter, however.)

To restore the gardens, the Natural History Museum of the University of Florence, of which the former herb garden of the Medici is a part, launched a crowdfunding campaign. The campaign is still underway (donate through www.planbee.bz).

The official celebration of the reopening, on May 21, will include a day-long event open to the public. For the garden’s hours and more information, see theflr.net/botanicgarden.
