Summer is beginning to blossom in piazzale Michelangelo: with a balustrade restoration recently behind it, the famous overlook is now set to reopen FLOWER (For Living On a Wonderful Ecological Resource), a seasonal outdoor venue introduced in August 2016.

Set to open on July 21 at 7.30pm, the bar-café area is run by popular downtown eatery amblé and will once again host a full program of cultural events, readings and concerts. But with its garden cushions, lounge chairs, umbrellas and palm trees, it feels more beachy than bookish.

The first event in the lineup is, nonetheless, a book presentation by former Italian prime minister (and ex-mayor of Florence) Matteo Renzi, who will discuss his new book Avanti. Perché l’Italia non si ferma in the company of current mayor Dario Nardella, Renzi’s successor, and journalist Eva Giovannini, who will serve as moderator (July 21, 9pm).

FLOWER is part of ongoing Estate Fiorentina initiatives and will be open until the end of September. For updates on FLOWER’s cultural programming, visit the Facebook page.
