More and more citizens of the town, currently within the province of Pisa, are joining a Facebook profile calling for such a move. Although the mayor of San Miniato says it will never happen, supporters of the idea claim that ‘Due to its geographic position, tradition, culture and popular sentiment, San Miniato is more connected to Florence than it has ever been to Pisa and Pisans. We thus ask that this ancient town be placed under the jurisdiction of the province of Florence, as it was in the past.’
