With their interest piqued by the bestselling The Monster of Florence, which topped the New York Times’ bestsellers list for 14 weeks, Americans have started traveling to Florence to tour the crime scenes.
The international fame of the Monster of Florence murders is linked to the book by Mario Spezi, a local journalist and expert on the murders. The novel was written in English with American novelist Douglas Preston.
Mystified by the one of Italy’s most notorious true crime stories, a group of six American women recently decided to spend their holiday this year visiting not only the Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi, but also the places in and around the city where the Monster of Florence struck.
Renting a bus to get to the crime scenes, the women emailed Spezi, telling him they were ‘especially interested in the sites of the Monster murders.’
