Realism again in a political thriller set in and around the
UN building in New York
in Sidney Pollacks The Interpreter. Nicole Kidman is the UN interpreter who
overhears a death threat against the African dictator (probably Robert
Mugabe),with Secret Service agent Sean Penn investigating. Apart from a few
unauthorized sequences in Hitchcocks North by Northwest, this is the first
time the UN headquarters have been so extensively featured on film, and the
effect is of heightened realism and credibility in a movie that relishes its
recreation of a world of professionals, who for once have better things to do
than fall in lust at first sight.
