Dreams have never sounded this good and musician Matilde Davoli is the one to thank. She’s no stranger to the sounds of slumberland: her new album I’m Calling You from My Dreams is an invitation to partake in a wonderful sonorous journey of her making. Born in Lecce, a city commonly nicknamed ‘The Florence of the South’, the young London-based songwriter-producer’s first solo LP is taking both the Italian and foreign press on a slowmo roller coaster joyride. Almost entirely recorded with real instruments, the electronic ambience lifts you up into its swirling textures of guitar strings, soothing synths and beguiling vocal harmonies. The record‘s ten tracks softly drift through realms of electro-R&B, sixties psychedelia, chill-wave and exquisite pop tinged folk. As in dreams, different elements clash and combine, forming coherent yet surreal stories of humanity and loss, beauty, fear and love.
After singing and playing the guitar for Italian bands (Studiodavoli and Girl With The Gun), Matilde ventured to England to work as a sound engineer. Here she met up with newborn record label Loyal to Your Dreams, which released her album after a successful crowd-funding campaign. Now Davoli is coming back to Italy on tour and Florence is one of her chosen stops.
