On June 14, in via de’ Gondi, from 6 to 8pm, the activist group Good Trouble Florence, along with members of Indivisible Abroad in France, Germany, Holland, the UK, Ireland, Iceland, Canada and a growing number of like-minded allies around the world, will be standing up to defend democracy, justice and human rights in a peaceful protest.

Hands Off Protest Florence April 5 2025

June 14 is Flag Day in the U.S., where the Stars and Stripes is honored for the country’s struggles to withhold democracy since the Civil War. Donald Trump has now turned the tables on that date and has ordered a multi-million-dollar military parade to honor, not the flag, but his birthday instead. Tanks and soldiers will be rolling through the streets of Washington DC, a made-for-TV display of his dominance and ego, similar only to spectacles put forth by dictators in authoritarian countries, but never before in the U.S.

Now, June 14, honoring the country’s struggles to uphold democracy since the Civil War, will be a day of peaceful defiance, a No Kings Day, where concerned citizens in the U.S. and around the world will be standing up to abuse of power at home as well as authoritarianism in other countries. From city blocks to small towns, courthouse steps to community parks, people power will be taking action.

Good Trouble Firenze is a liberal activist group working to defend human rights, democracy and justice, no matter where citizens may be living. U.S. citizens abroad along with the international community will be standing up in solidarity with marginalized communities, for the protection of voting rights, holding U.S. leaders accountable from abroad, defending the principles and rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and organizing to build a more just, equitable future together.
