Tuscany’s music economy is on the rebound and everybody’s invited to board the gravy train.

The region has teamed up with Florence-based radio station Controradio and the Giovanisì project to launch a one-of-a-kind initiative: a 5,000 euro prize for 100 selected musicians. Part of a five-year project led by the region’s president Enrico Rossi, Tuscany has allocated 500,000 euro to bolster local music production and live concert activities.

To be in with a chance of winning the cash prize you must have an address in Tuscany and be under 35 (for bands the average age of all members must not exceed this limit). Minors can also take part in the contest, making it an interesting opportunity for emerging youngsters on the lookout for funding and professional insight. Participants must attend a free mandatory 50-hour training course on self-management, self-production and self-promotion, which will take place in Florence this spring.

To register you need the following: two original songs (homemade or previously published recordings are accepted), two photos of your music project, CVs, ID cards of all band members and, most importantly, an idea of your budget. Because, when it comes to the Italian music industry, sometimes things can get quite costly. The 5,000 euro are calculated to cover everything, from rehearsal rentals to press office services and recording studio expenses. The deadline is set for January 29.
