As an adaptation from one of the novellas in C. S. Lewiss classic series, Disneys The Chronicles of Narnia is as faithful as it is necessary to be with material that is sacred to its devotees, though Shrek director Andrew Adamson is perhaps disadvantaged by the string of previous fantasies featuring the landscapes of New Zealand peopled with massed armies in the eternal contest of Good vs. Evil. Lewiss (Christian) religious allegory, while inescapable, is not over-played and the CG Aslan (voiced by Liam Neeson) is convincing enough, as are the Beavers, but the humans are lacklustre on the whole, with the exception of James McAvoys excellent Faun, Mr Tumnus. Probably an instant classic.
