If the cult horror-thriller Saw was an expertly handled sadistic gore fest of more than usually revolting ingeniousness (which also took $100 million at the box office), Saw II is the sadly inferior sequel. Using a similar premise a collection of victims subjected to torture in a booby-trapped house by a madman, and using the same look and similar cast the movie is necessarily gruesome and macabre, but lacks the unsettling edginess of the first by giving away too much in the end game. Though nothing will dissuade fans of the original to miss out on its suc-cessor.
