It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. It is also true that the Jane Austen novel is in want of a new screen adaptation (surprisingly, this is only the second since Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson in 1940). It is no surprise that the team, including writer Deborah Moggach and director Joe Wright, not to mention Oscar nominated Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet, deliver a reading that is practically flawless, certainly enough to persuade devotees of the 1995 BBC Colin Firth rising from the waters TV mini-series to get a second opinion. To the fore in this Pride and Prejudice are the masterly performances of Keira Knightle, Tom Hollander as the odious Mr Collins and Judi Dench as Lady Catherine De Bourg. A memorable and uplifting movie experience.
